Arctic Lodges to be Test Centres for Rugged Outdoor Gear
There is no doubt about it. There is no better place on Earth to put solid gear through the wringer, than the Arctic. The rugged terrain, fickle weather and experienced guides at Arctic Watch and Arctic Haven create the perfect conditions for an Arctic Test Centre. This summer, thanks to new partnerships forged with Blundstone, Osprey and Swarovski, guides and lodge staff will be putting this high quality gear to the test!
Blundstones are known worldwide for their durability, comfort and style and are the footwear of choice for our kitchen and lodge team at Arctic Watch and Arctic Haven. This season, all kitchen and in-house staff will be sporting Blundstone boots. For these staff members, like Executive Chef Justin Tse, these boots are ideal because they provide great foot and back support, they can endure the rocky terrain around the lodge and they look professional. “This is the most comfortable kitchen shoe I have ever worn”, says Justin of his well-traveled boots. Justin has been working in professional kitchens for over 10 years and has worn Blundstones for 6 of those accomplished years.
Swarovski Optik is the leader in outdoor optics and has been used by guides and nature enthusiasts for wildlife and astronomical observation since 1949. This season, Arctic Watch lodge will put to use several binoculars and a spotting scope - all of which will be an incredible addition to our gear and will enhance the viewing experience of muskoxen, bears, foxes, whales and birds at Arctic Watch and bears, caribou, foxes, wolverine, birds and wolves at Arctic Haven. Chief Muskox (and Guide), Tessum Weber says “I’ve used a range of optics in the Arctic for the past 25 years - Swarovski is consistently the best. The rugged durability can always be counted on, and the clarity is phenomenal. The ability to spot a polar bear on the northwest passage sea ice, or caribou on the fall landscape at Arctic Haven from a greater distance means I can do my job better!”
Osprey’s mission “is to create innovative high performance gear that reflects our love of adventure and our devotion to the outdoors” and we couldn’t imagine a better match for a partnership! Arctic Watch and Arctic Haven guides spend a great deal of time selecting tough and practical gear for their guiding and personal outdoor pursuits. They have an intimate understanding of what features, material and fit is ideal for the Arctic environment. This season, they will be equipped with a variety of Osprey backpacks that they will use to carry safety equipment, tools, lunches, firearms and more across the tundra.
Detailed gear reviews from the guides, kitchen and hospitality team at Arctic Watch and Arctic Haven will be compiled and shared with these three fine companies. We are excited about the opportunity to use this gear at our lodges and look forward to lasting partnerships.
